Journey to the Center of the Earth (Dandeli) : By Maruthi E K, IIIrd semester

Here goes the experience of one of the best adventures I have done so far. Dandeli - I had not heard about it before but when I entered Dandeli region, it was like Journey to the Center of the Earth.

We were a group of 38 students & 8 faculty members who gathered in Hubli-Dharwad. It was 2 & half hours of journey to Dandeli on a dts bus.

To kill the time, we started playing some movie songs irrespective of the language. From the very first song, none of us were glued to our sears and were moving to the tunes irrespective of whether one knew the song or not. After a while on the road we also had dance competition, which really worked us up for the upcoming trek.

Around 10:30 am we stepped into the KADUMANE Resort, which had glimpses of a heritage village. The place was the most riveting landscape I had ever visited with birds welcoming us with their melodious chirping; in short we were in the lap of nature-god.

Just look at the beauty of nature-

“When Birds Squawk, Other Species Seem to Listen”
Whenever an intruder enters forest, the birds give signals to other animals in the forest, informed our guide after asking us all to respect the nature when out in the wild.

Soon after entering the KADUMANE, the host welcomed us with a natural herbal tea that made rejuvenated us and acted as a natural energy booster.
Then we spent some time understanding the art of “Bee-Breeding” for honey.
After that we kick started our trek, entering the lush green surroundings with excitement.

The forest welcomed us with a fresh wave of breeze, which was cleanest air I had inhaled in a while; it was like trekking in the heaven.

As you all know selfie ka mania is the rage nowadays and we made sure we were not left out.

“All good things do not come together. There is always a pinch of salt involved”

In our case it was the dreaded LEACH, as Dandeli is a thick forest we found lot of leaches preying on some of us. But then again, leach therapy costs anywhere close to $100 and here we were getting the therapy for free. Lets just say that experiencing nature and its beauty had made all of us optimists.
Through out the trek, we crossed many streams that made many of us realize that the importance of exercising on a regular basis.
Finally we completed trekking around 1:30pm, reached KADUMANE and immediately started gorging on the delicious lunch our host had ready for us.
After few minutes of rest, we again jumped on the bus and reached an open land on the banks of backwater from SUPA DAM.
This place brought out the kids in all of us, with everyone just running around and exploring the place.

As usual many started taking selfies & group photos for their social media handles.

Guys were ready with the cricket kit & played couple of matches. The effect of Pro-Kabbadi was also explored as few minutes were spent playing Kabbadi also.

Soon we returned to KADUMANE, this time the host welcomed us with hot “Aalu Baji”. As we were starving (after playing), these delicious baji’s ensured that chaos was inevitable and everyone grabbed as many as they could.

Soon the time came for us to bid adieu to Dandeli at around 6:30pm.

It was a day that made us fresh, wild and adventurous.

And then I realized that:

“Adventures are the best way to learn”
